P. Wesley Foster, Jr. is founder, chairman and chief executive officer of The Long
& Foster Companies —Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc., Prosperity Mortgage Company,
Mid-States Title Insurance Agency, Inc., and Long & Foster Insurance Agency, Inc.
He founded Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc. in 1968, along with a partner, Henry
A. Long. Wes Foster handled the residential real estate arm of the business and
Henry Long handled commercial. In July 1979, Mr. Foster became sole owner and Long
& Foster has grown to the largest privately-owned real estate company in America.
Wes Foster is a founding member of The Leading Real Estate Companies of the World
and the Realty Alliance, both of which are trade groups consisting of the nation’s
leading brokers.
Presently, Foster is seated on the board of directors of Lane Construction Corporation
of Meridien, Conn. and the George C. Marshall Foundation. He has also served on
the board of directors of RELO®, The Leading Real Estate Companies of the World
(a global network of large real estate companies), The Greater Washington Board
of Trade, Metro Board of Directors of First American Bank of Maryland, and the Board
of Directors of First Union National Bank of Virginia. He was named “Entrepreneur
of the Year” in 1991 for real estate in the Greater Washington, D.C. area by Ernst
& Young and co-sponsors Merrill Lynch and Inc. Magazine. In 1987, Wes Foster was
elected Chairman of the Washington/Baltimore Regional Authority and is past Chairman
of The Business Development Bureau of The Greater Washington Board of Trade.
Foster is a 1956 graduate of the Virginia Military Institute and was an Army artillery
officer, stationed in Darmstadt, Germany. He functioned in the capacity of Fire
Direction Officer of the D. Battery 28th Artillery 8th Division (An Honest John
Rocket Battery). He also served as special weapons liaison officer to the German
III Corps.
Foster resides in McLean with his wife, Betty, and they have three grown children
and four grandchildren.
Jeffrey S. Detwiler
President and Chief Executive Officer
The Long & Foster® Companies
Jeff Detwiler is president and chief operating officer of The Long & Foster® Companies.
In this capacity, his focus is on guiding the strategic direction of the organization,
including the operations of Long & Foster® Real Estate, Inc., as well as our affiliated
businesses of mortgage, title, and insurance.
He has over 20 years of experience and expertise in the mortgage industry. His background
also includes traditional banking, insurance and portfolio management.
During his career, Detwiler has had the rare opportunity to experience the mortgage
industry from all vantages of the spectrum: the originations market, as a conduit
and warehouse lender, the Wall Street perspective, and as an investor. In addition
to having been involved with banks, investment banks and mortgage banks, Detwiler
has benefited from having direct responsibility as the senior executive for all
facets of the mortgage business that included sales and production, capital markets
and trading, finance and risk management, operations and technology, and servicing.
Within the originations market he has directed correspondent, wholesale, and retail
production channels. The breadth of his experience combined with the depth of his
expertise provides him with a unique perspective in this industry to intimately
understand the complexities and interactions of the various market segments, supply
chain participants, and the multitude of operating functions.
Most recently, Detwiler was the chief production officer for the Correspondent Channel
at Countrywide/Bank of America. The Correspondent Channel included correspondent
lending, warehouse lending and Landsafe origination services. In this role he was
accountable for all revenue producing activities, which included sales, marketing,
pricing and products.
Prior to Countrywide, Detwiler worked on Wall Street for Credit Suisse First Boston
in the mortgage trading and finance group. He was originally hired by DLJ, which
was acquired by CSFB, to build a conduit that leveraged the trading expertise of
a Wall Street firm. While at CSFB he built and managed the warehouse lending business,
and reengineered and oversaw the servicing operation. In addition, he designed,
built and managed the mortgage conduit.
Before Detwiler moved to Wall Street, he spent ten years at GMAC/RFC and was the
chairman of the Conduit Operating Committee. He was responsible for developing and
managing the capital markets and trading activities of the firm. In addition to
those activities he was the primary risk manager for credit and prepayment risk.
He had oversight for portfolio management and was the senior executive responsible
for special servicing.
In the late 1980’s, he worked for two large originators as their secondary marketing
manager. He began his career in banking and was involved with insurance activities.
Detwiler graduated from Princeton University in 1983. He resides in Northern Virginia
and is married with four children.

Vice Chairman of The Long & Foster® Companies
George T. Eastment, III. — Vice Chairman of The Long & Foster Companies,
comprised of Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc., the largest and most respected
privately-owned real estate company in America, Prosperity Mortgage Company, Long
& Foster Insurance Agency, Inc., and Long & Foster Settlement Services.
Eastment has been President of Long & Foster’s Financial Services since 2004.
Prior to that, he served as Executive Vice President from March 1996 to December
2003. Eastment has held numerous senior management positions since joining Long
& Foster in 1972 as Controller, when the firm was in its fourth year. He was
promoted to Financial Vice President in 1977, and Senior Vice President in 1982.
Eastment is a 1972 graduate of The University of Virginia School of Business, Charlottesville,
Va., where he received an MBA and he is an undergraduate of Manhattan College in
New York City where he received his BBA. Eastment was a Captain in the United States
Marine Corps from 1966 to 1970, and he was a platoon commander in Vietnam. He is
a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Financial Planner, and he holds a Virginia
Real Estate License. A native of Brooklyn, N.Y. he and his wife, Tina, reside in
Warenton, Va. They have a son, Scott.
Mary K. Weddle
The Long & Foster® Companies
Executive Vice President
Mary K. Weddle was appointed executive vice president of The Long & Foster Companies
in 2004 and is responsible for overseeing the company’s multiple service departments
which provide support to Long & Foster’s more than 230 sales offices throughout
the company’s seven states and the District of Columbia. She is also responsible
for oversight of the company’s affiliated businesses of mortgage, title and insurance.
Prior to her recent appointment, Weddle served as senior vice president . Weddle
joined The Long & Foster Companies in 1999 as vice president of operations.
Prior to joining Long & Foster, Weddle was previously chief operating officer of
Pardoe/Pardoe and Graham Real Estate, Inc., a residential brokerage firm in Maryland,
Washington, D.C., and Virginia. In that capacity, she directed the operations and
financial activities of the firm, establishing its mortgage and title companies.
She joined Pardoe as Controller in 1993. Weddle began her career as president and
owner of ProAction, Inc., a financial services firm which she sold in 1993.
Weddle is a graduate of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and holds an
MA from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J.. She is a Certified Public Accountant
and licensed Realtor®. She serves as a board of directors member of United Bankshares,
Inc. and on the audit Committee for the holding company. She is a member of AICPA
(American Institute of Certified Public Accountants) and VSCPA (Virginia Society
of Certified Public Accountants). She is active in the Junior League of Washington,
D.C.. She resides in Reston, Va. and is the mother of three grown children.
Barry S. Redler
The Long & Foster® Companies Chief Marketing Officer
Barry S. Redler joined Long & Foster as chief marketing officer (CMO) in September
of 2009 In this newly created position, he is responsible for overseeing all brand,
marketing strategy and communications for Long & Foster and its more than 200 sales
offices which span throughout the companies' seven state region and the District
of Columbia. He also oversees the marketing operations of the subsidiary mortgage,
title, and insurance businesses.
Redler is an experienced marketing leader having worked with both Fortune 10 and
privately held corporations. Prior to joining The Long & Foster Companies, he oversaw
marketing and sales as a vice president for the Stanley Martin Companies, a privately
held regional homebuilder.
Redler also worked for The Ford Motor Company for over 20 years in various senior
level marketing and sales positions. His broad experience at that company included
field marketing and sales assignments throughout the U.S., as well as serving in
lead product and consumer marketing roles. His team led the launch of the Ford Edge
crossover, which went on to lead the segment in market share, and he was instrumental
in executing a critical communications plan for the Escape Hybrid that launched
with a television ad during Superbowl XL in 2006. The ad was recognized by IAG Research
as the "Most Effective Automotive Ad-Non Luxury" that year and drove record awareness
levels.
Redler is a graduate of Northwood University in Midland, Michigan, and holds a Masters
Degree in Business Administration from the University of Michigan. He resides in
Northern Virginia with his wife and two children.
Bruce Enger
Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
The Long & Foster® Companies
Bruce L. Enger serves as the senior vice president and chief financial officer of
the Long & Foster Companies and joined the company in 2003. He is responsible for
overseeing all the financial, banking and accounting operations of the company which
provide support to Long & Foster’s more than 270 real estate sales offices throughout
the company’s seven states and District of Columbia. He also oversees the financial
operations of the subsidiary mortgage, title, and insurance businesses, and leads
the acquisition activities for the companies.
Prior to joining Long & Foster in January 2003, Enger was chief operating officer
and senior vice president and partner of Long Realty Company in Tucson, Arizona.
He began his real estate career with Long Realty Company in 1997 as chief financial
officer and was instrumental in many acquisitions during the growth of the company,
including the sale of Long Realty to HomeServices of America, Inc. Enger also spent
15 years prior to that in management in the heavy construction industry, where he
was responsible for business development, project management, and estimating.
Enger received his bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Montana State University
before going on to earn his MBA and CPA designations. Enger resides in northern
Virginia with his family.
Randal Krout
President
Prosperity Mortgage® Company
Randal Krout joins Prosperity with over 20 years of experience in a variety of sales,
and senior management positions in the mortgage industry. Krout was formerly senior
vice president of the eastern United States for Wells Fargo’s Institutional Lending
group.
Krout brings more than twenty years of mortgage experience to his new role. In his
most recent position at Wells Fargo, he was responsible for all the operations and
sales efforts in Wells Fargo’s Eastern Division.Under his leadership, the mortgage
division generated in excess of $146 billion in loans throughout 22 states. Prior
to that, Krout spent three years at Freddie Mac in McLean, Va. as vice president
for all sales and management for their Community Lending segment for the eastern
United States. The operation generated in excess of $60 billion in volume and led
the nation in production. His responsibilities included negotiations with CEO’s
and senior management teams as well as the motivation and training of the sales
force.
Krout began his career as a retail loan officer in 1987 with World Savings (the
operating subsidiary of golden West Financial Corporation) in southern New Jersey.
He progressed throughout his career with the same firm to become a branch manager,
regional manager, east coast manager, and ultimately he managed a multi-state operation
with both sales and centralized underwriting.
Krout is a native of Cherry Hill, N.J. and graduated from Rutgers University in
1982 with a Bachelor of Arts. He currently resides in Oakton, VA, with his wife
and three children.
Richard M. Nelms
Interim President of Long & Foster General Brokerage, Long & Foster® Real Estate, Inc.
Richard M. Nelms is interim president of Long & Foster General Brokerage. Nelms
began his successful real estate career in 1967. As president and chairman of the
board, he and two partners founded Bowers, Nelms & Fonville in 1967, which quickly
became Central Virginia's leading real estate firm. Nelms joined Long & Foster as
president of the Richmond Region in June 1998 with the merger of Bowers, Nelms &
Fonville. Under Mr. Nelms' leadership, the Richmond region has grown to 16 sales
offices and continues to hold the area's dominant market share position.
In 2003, he was appointed president of the Hampton Roads Region. With the acquisition
of Boone & Company and Owens & Company, Mr. Nelms was appointed president of the
Southwest Virginia region of Long & Foster in 2004. There are currently 33 offices
in the three regions.
Within the real estate industry, Nelms has been REALTOR® OF THE YEAR, served as
director of the National Association of Realtors®, president of the Virginia Association
of Realtors®, and president of the Richmond Association of Realtors®.
In the community. Nelms has served as president of the Virginia Division of the
American Cancer Society, he has served on board of directors for the Arthritis Foundation,
and as chairman of the University of Richmond Corporate Partnership Program. He
is also a past director of the Richmond Chamber of Commerce and currently serves
on the board of directors of the American Heart Association.
Nelms is a graduate of the University of Virginia.
Mr. Nelms resides with his wife, Dianne, in Richmond, Virginia. They have 4 children
and 3 grandchildren.
James A. Maiden, Jr.
President Long & Foster® Insurance Agency, Inc.
James Maiden became President of Long & Foster Insurance in 2007, after 3 years
of leading the Personal Insurance Division to double digit growth and earnings.
He now has ultimate profit and loss responsibility for the three divisions of the
Agency – Personal, Commercial and Financial – in its seven Mid Atlantic states and
the District of Columbia.
Maidens’ youthful enthusiasm and focus on inclusive leadership and systems thinking
to solve business problems, often overshadows the 25 years of experience that he
has in the insurance industry. He has worked in a myriad of business models: 20
years on the insurance Company side with both the direct to consumer and independent
agency channels in various underwriting, product development, sales and operational
roles; and also on the independent agency side since joining Long & Foster Insurance
in 2003.
James began his career with ITT Hartford in an underwriting capacity and in a short
14 years served as Senior Vice President and Operating Officer of the Hartford’s
flagship affinity insurance entity. He received recognition for underwriting quality,
community involvement and for government relations’ advocacy on critical insurance
issues during his time on the West Coast. After 18 years with the Hartford, he served
as Senior Vice President and leader for the U.S. based direct-to-consumer insurance
entity of the Allianz Insurance Group
His time with LFI has been productive: obtaining top talent, strong results and
leading the organization to be recognized as the 2007 Agency of the Year by The
Travelers Insurance Company, and as one of the 25 largest insurance brokers in the
Metro DC area by the Washington Business Journal.
This New Jersey native is a graduate of Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, and the Anderson
School of Management at UCLA. Additionally, he was elected to the prestigious
Executive Leadership Council in 1997.
Michael Maddiex
President
Long & Foster® Settlement Services
Michael J. Maddiex joined The Long & Foster Companies in April 2004 as president
of Long & Foster Settlement Services. He is responsible for overseeing all of Long
& Foster’s title relationships which include direct operations and joint ventures.
Since joining Long & Foster he has established and maintained more than a dozen
title relationships throughout the Long & Foster footprint.
Prior to joining Long & Foster, Maddiex founded Baird & Warner Title, an affiliate
of Baird & Warner, Chicago’s largest real estate company and one of the nation’s
largest.
Maddiex began his 20 year real estate/title insurance career in Chicago in 1986
at a large, independent title company. He rose through the ranks to become executive
vice president of operations. He subsequently became vice president and operations
manager of Koenig & Strey/GMAC, a high-end, prestigious real estate firm in Chicago.
A graduate of the University of Illinois, Urbana, Ill.., Maddiex resides in Chantilly,
Va. with his wife and two children. He is a member of ALTA (American Land Title
Association) and is an active member of RESPRO.
Michael B. Koval
The Long & Foster® Companies Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer
Michael B. Koval was appointed senior vice president and CIO of the Long & Foster
Companies in 2004. He is responsible for overseeing all technology services for
Long & Foster and its’ more than 250 sales offices which span throughout the companies’
seven state region and the District of Columbia. Prior to his recent appointment,
Koval served as vice president and CIO since joining Long & Foster in 2000.
Prior to joining Long & Foster, Koval was senior manager and practice leader at
KPMG Consulting (currently know as BearingPoint, LLC), an international consulting
company with offices in more than 125 countries. In that capacity, Koval served
numerous clients with their selection and implementation of financial and transactional
systems and ecommerce solutions including the launching of numerous websites.
Koval is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Business at College
Park Maryland and holds a Masters Degree in Information Technology from Johns Hopkins
University. He serves on numerous advisory boards and has attended Harvard Business
School for advanced executive level continued education. Koval is also a licensed
real estate associate in the state of Maryland since 2000. Koval lives in Rockville,
Maryland with his wife and two children.
