About Dick Nathan

Dick Nathan has been a realtor since 1983. A multi-million-dollar producer, Dick is a Lifetime Member of both the Multi-Million Dollar Club and Top Producers' Club of the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors. He has a sales volume among the top 5% of realtors across the United States.

A native of a Manhattan suburb, Rutherford, N.J., Dick graduated from The College of William and Mary and holds a Master of Urban and Regional Planning degree from the School of Business and Real Estate Development at George Washington University, where he was the Oliver T. Carr Fellow for one year. He has been a resident of Arlington County since 1980. His wife, Joy Hutzel Nathan, was raised in Alexandria, and also graduated from The College of William and Mary, where they met. She is a division director of a group of communications professionals who manage government contracts at a Bethesda-based consulting firm. In early 2005 she was appointed by the Arlington County Board to serve on the new Arlington Commission on Long-term Care Residences; she is also a former member of the Junior League of Washington.

Dick holds the ABR (Accredited Buyer's Representative) designation, which requires coursework in working with buyers, the SRES (Seniors Real Estate Specialist) designation, and the CRS (Certified Residential Specialist) designation, the highest professional designation in the residential real estate industry, held by only 4% of realtors nationwide. In addition, Dick is licensed as an Associate Broker in the Commonwealth of Virginia— which requires training and experience above the agent level. He is also a multi-year recipient of the "Dozen National Sales Award," presented "in recognition of leadership, integrity, enthusiasm, and a commitment to excellence…." His interests include investing, non-profit fund-raising, travel, and studying Spanish. One of the highlights of his travel experience was flying on the Concorde from London to Washington in 1990.

Dick has been associated with Long and Foster Realtors since 1995. Before that, he was associated with Prudential Preferred Properties (1990-1995) and Shannon & Luchs Realtors (1983-1990)— all in Arlington.
