About Fergus O'Brien

Fergus is happy to announce that he won listing of the year for 2018 in Urban Turf. For more information click here.

Fergus who admits he can be meticulous to a fault is an eternal optimist and people person as his career in sales and hospitality illustrates. He began his life in the UK and moved to New York City in 1988 where he remained for 26 years before moving to Washington DC in January of 2014. "I chose DC," he says, "because it's the ultimate best of both world's city, significant enough to offer the best in culture and entertainment while being manageable enough to breathe."

His passion for real estate began in 1991 as creator/operator of Country Inn the City, an award-winning bed and breakfast/hotel alternative in Manhattan, and a few years later as the buyer of a beautiful Italianate fixer-upper in Chatham, NY. He currently has ownership interests in five multi-family real estate properties throughout the country by way of a 1031 exchange.

Fergus, who spent his first two years at Long and Foster with the Old Town Virginia-based team of McCormick and Lusk, a top producer who has been consistently recognized by their peers in the Washingtonian, relocated to the Logan Circle office in October of 2020 to forge his own path. He lives in the Mount Vernon Triangle section of DC and will continue to divide his time between all three area jurisdictions (DC, MD, VA) with an emphasis on Washington, DC. Having represented both sides in a variety of transactions, he knows that the best deals are those which satisfy all parties, but that does not mean that he is not out to do the best for his client and have some fun doing it. Clients appreciate his ability to combine his life experience with a comprehensive understanding of the industry and the technology that supports it, while keeping a level head when necessary. "Life is not so much about what happens to you," he agrees, "it’s about how you react."

Fergus has a particular passion for interior design and architecture, citing Gaudi as perhaps the most revolutionary and significant practitioner of all. His preference for homes leans traditional/historic but as an admirer of eclecticism, he recognizes the virtue of clean modern/contemporary design. Other interests include off-piste skiing, sports, travel, and the arts. He has volunteered at Whitman-Walker Health and the Capital Food Bank, and recently signed up with Food & Friends. He also co-hosts a regular Happy Hour event in Dupont Circle...

Hobbies include travel, sports, the arts, downhill/off-piste skiing, scuba/snorkeling.
