Alice Buchanan Scott
Associate Broker, MBA, Seller Representative Specialist, Accredited Buyer Representative
Alice loves being a real estate agent as it challenges her to become better every day and always go the extra mile in serving her clients. She is also thankful to have a great support network with her managing broker and Long & Foster assisting with resources to provide high quality service to clients. She also loves being a part of a team, where she and Erik combine their individual strengths to serve the client.
Alice made a career change to real estate in 2014 in order to gain more control and flexibility with her career while also serving the community. A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Alice worked in the field of sports medicine initially. She enjoyed working with athletes and helping them reach their goals. However, as much as she loved her work, the travel demands that went along with the job started to burn her out.
After earning her MBA from the University of Richmond, Alice took a position working for a local trade association in lobbying, member services and workforce development. This career transition was a welcome change with priorities and responsibilities shifting as she became a new mom in 2010; however, the consistent in-state travel for the association became a strain on her ability to put her son first. After six years with the organization, she had also hit a ceiling for advancement and wanted more opportunity.
A friend introduced her to real estate, and while it was a risky decision to leave a salaried job, she liked the challenge that it offered along with its unlimited potential. Growing up in the Richmond area, community has always been important to her and loves the opportunity to introduce transplants to RVA as well as to help clients navigate the great local neighborhoods. Going back to her experience working in sports medicine, Alice has always had a passion for helping people identify and reach their goals. A natural problem solver, Alice loves helping her clients navigate challenges that arise during a real estate transaction successfully.
Erik Scott Shipp
Realtor, Accredited Buyer Representative
Like his partner Alice, Erik got started in real estate to support his children as a single dad.Erik started his career in the telecommunications industry, and later followed his passion as an artist to earn his degree in painting and print-making from VCU. After becoming a dad in 2006, Erik became a stay-at-home dad amidst the economic downturn to save on the expense of childcare. His nine years of stay-at-home experience raising his children enabled him to see the world through a different lens, full of innocence and wonder.
However, in 2015, Erik struggled to transition back into the workforce after being out of the workforce for so long. He learned what a career in real estate could offer him and saw it as a great option to restart his work life. Erik loves to solve problems for people, and real estate offers many opportunities for him to utilize this talent. Erik has a keen eye for detail, a quality he picked up through his years of experience as an artist, a great asset for both buyer and seller clients. He has also been known to help clients find a piece of furniture they really need and can even fix or refinish it for them. He is truly all about going the extra mile!
Erik also understands that the home buying and selling process can be stressful. His 10 years of training in martial arts provided him with more than just the ability to defend himself. This training has taught him how to stay relaxed under pressure. Erik has transferred these skills into his work with clients, helping them manage the range of emotions they experience throughout the home-buying and selling process. In real estate, self-discipline is essential to reaching every objective, which is why he loves being a part of The Scott Team, where he and Alice can work together in a great partnership for each and every client.
