I was born and raised in South Boston. I am a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a B.S. in Education, and I received my Masters in Education from Longwood University.

For 33 years I taught school in the Halifax County Public School System, and I served as the athletic director of HCMS for 15 years. I have been selling real estate for 31 years in the South Boston/ Halifax area . I have been a MULTIMILLION DOLLAR PRODUCER. I received my associates broker's license and am presently working with Long & Foster.

I have been married for 48 years to my high-school sweetheart, Valerie Murray Compton, and she retired from teaching after 38 years. We have 3 wonderful children- Chad, Anne-Ashley, and Kristen. My son graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in turf grass management. He resides in Williamsburg, Va., where he is a Virginia State Trooper in York County. Anne-Ashley also graduated from NCSU with a B.S. in biochemistry, from VCU with a Doctor of Dental Surgery and from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has completed her residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry and has accepted a position as a Pediatric Dentist in the Chicago area. Kristen attended Longwood University and majoring in kinesiology; she is now working on her nursing degree while working at the ER at our local hospital.
