What to Do in National Landing, Virginia

National Landing has a mix of shops and restaurants that range from fine dining to cozy coffee shops on city streets and in the Crystal City and Pentagon City shopping centers. In addition, residents can hop on Metro and arrive in minutes to nearby Old Town Alexandria, which has waterfront restaurants, historic sites and plenty of art galleries and unusual shops. Metro also brings you to dozens of fun neighborhoods in D.C. such as The Wharf, the U Street corridor, 14th Street and Shaw, where you can take in a Nationals baseball game, visit museums and explore shops, restaurants and nightlife.

Close to National Landing, the 18-mileMount Vernon Trail stretches along the Potomac River from George Washington’s Mount Vernon home to Theodore Roosevelt Island. The paved trail, which links to several other regional trails, is popular with bicyclists, joggers and walkers. Eventually, National Landing will be home to Amazon HQ2, as well as Central District Retail, a 130,000-square foot entertainment, dining and shopping destination with an Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, bars, a specialty grocer, restaurants and more. Plans for the community include plenty of outdoor gathering spaces and parks.

In National Landing itself, the urban environment’s housing is primarily high-rise apartments and condos that cater to singles and couples, including young professionals and empty-nesters. Housing in the surrounding Arlington County offers diverse options for every size household and budget. Nearly 400,000 rental apartments, condos, townhouses and houses are located within a five-mile radius of National Landing, with approximately 40,000 more in the pipeline.

Getting Around National Landing, Virginia

Residents in National Landing have an abundance of transit options to get around the community, the region and the world. As of late 2018, there are three Metro stations and a stop on the Virginia Railway Express commuter line, buses, bike lanes, bike paths and access to the Capitol Bikeshare system. Reagan National Airport is adjacent to National Landing and two international airports are located within about 35 miles. Drivers can quickly access Routes 1 and 110, I-395 and the George Washington Parkway.

Planned projects include additional entrances to the Crystal City and Potomac Yard Metro stations, a pedestrian bridge from National Landing to Reagan National Airport and a transit expansion to support Pentagon City, Crystal City and Potomac Yard.
