For malls, however, they have to make the trip into Williamsburg, in order to keep the area's quaint, historic character. Williamsburg features great dining, theater, movies, and bars to keep things exciting, as well as attractions like Busch Gardens and Water Country USA.

History buffs will loveYorktown, which is the county seat and the most well-known of York's towns. The historical town was one of the original counties of the Virginia Colony and the site of the last battle of the Revolutionary War. Today, it's a major tourist attraction, with visitors coming to explore the 18th-century buildings, walk the narrow streets, see historic reenactments, and investigate the pier. Some spend a day fishing, but there's always an abundance of excellent restaurants offers fine food for everyone.

For the most part, residents work and live in York, or commute to nearby Williamsburg. The Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, healthcare centers, financial services, and tourism are all important industries here, and they provide jobs for many locals. Interstate 64 runs alongside all of York County, making travel to both Williamsburg and Richmond (62 miles away), especially easy. Route 17 runs through the county for easy local travel.
