Living in Chantilly, VA

As they say,Virginia is for lovers. Chantilly, Virginia, is a serene community in Fairfax County and a place where lovers of history, progress, and wonderful neighborhoods congregate. Located just a stone's throw from Dulles International Airport and some 25 miles from Washington, D.C., Chantilly lies in the heart of the capital region's economic hub. Even amid the clamor of industry, this community pays homage to its heritage. Residents can take in the exhibits at the Sully Historic Site, the colonial home of Robert E. Lee's uncle, in between tee time at a local golf course or hike through nearby Ellanor C. Lawrence Park.

History and Recreation

Primarily a residential area, the Chantilly neighborhood sports a number of attractions worth multiple visits. The Sully Historic Site is located by the humming Route 28, but manages to keep the sound out and provide a fascinating look into 18th-century plantation life. A short drive away is the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, the local branch of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. Here, visitors are presented with the country's proud aeronautical history, complete with exhibits that include the Discovery space shuttle and the Enola Gay, perfectly preserved.

Living in Chantilly means being close to all the dining, entertainment, and shopping options needed for everyday life. While the nearby museums make great day trips, in the evening, Chantilly residents head to their go-to eateries and bistros that line a stretch of Route 50. Where Route 50 and Route 28 intersect, plenty of shopping can be found, including grocery, retail, and big box stores, and there is a variety of dining options as well, offering something for everyone.

Housing in Chantilly

Though long-since converted into a spacious and tranquil park, the plantation at the Sully Historic Site has endowed Chantilly real estate and the rest of the community with a composed, yet easygoing atmosphere. Homes for sale in Chantilly are typically townhomes or single-family detached houses, ideal for individuals and families of all sizes. The streets are wide and the grass is green, with plenty of room to stretch your legs, which provides a nice contrast of options from some of the more dense neighborhoods located closer to Washington, D.C.

While Chantilly, Virginia, is only seven miles from Dulles International Airport, there is limited bus service between the community and Washington, D.C. A vehicle is usually a requirement for local commuting for all but the shortest shopping trips.
