Living in Haddonfield, NJ

Known as "Historic Haddonfield," this quaint, leafy town in New Jersey has a strong cultural heritage dating back to 1682. It was here that the General Assembly declared New Jersey an independent state during the winter of 1777, and Haddonfield, NJ, retains much of its Revolutionary era charm. Georgian architecture, quiet neighborhoods, and picturesque, walkable streets make Haddonfield a true New Jersey icon, where residents and tourists rub shoulders amid the cozy shops, galleries, and chic restaurants.

Things to Do

Living in Haddonfield means you get to regularly stroll down Main Street, an all-American, tree-lined street filled with more than 200 stores, restaurants, and outdoor cafes, as well as arts and entertainment. Stores range from quaint to deluxe, which explains why Courier Post readers have voted Haddonfield, New Jersey the "Best Downtown Shopping Area" year after year.

Of course, there's more to do in Haddonfield than shop, and history lovers will love the Indian King Tavern Museum on Kings Highway East. Built in 1750, the tavern no longer sells old English ale, but it does contain a host of exhibits that reveal the rich history of the town. Located right off Kings Highway, Washington Avenue is the epicenter of Haddonfield's historic district and well worth a walk to check out the beautiful Colonial homes and the local flavor.

Traveling further back in time, the bones of the Hadrosaurus dinosaur were discovered in Haddonfield, New Jersey, and a commemorative monument is located in the center of downtown. At the end of leafy Maple Avenue, the Discovery Center is located on the very site where the first complete dinosaur remains were uncovered anywhere in the world.

Housing in Haddonfield

The center of Haddonfield, New Jersey, and the surrounding residential areas form the historic core of the city. Homes are protected here, which means that the buildings, fences, gates, and brick sidewalks must maintain the colonial flavor that contributes to Haddonfield's historic charm. Unsurprisingly, the historic district typically has a lower housing inventory than the rest of the community, as well as higher prices.

Outside the central area, homes for sale in Haddonfield come at more affordable prices. Buyers can expect to see pretty single-family detached homes, townhomes, and condos among the real estate listings, fusing contemporary chic with Haddonfields' faintly nostalgic, colonial charm.
