Living in Maryland
Because of its proximity to Washington D.C., Maryland is home to workers in the service sector, either directly for the government or alongside specialized contract agencies. The other major industries in Maryland are commercial fishing and manufacturing. For fun, Marylanders enjoy the Walters Art Museum, shopping and eating in the Baltimore neighborhood of
Fell’s Point, one of the best areas in the city to walk around in, and visiting the National Aquarium, which features marine life found in the nearby Chesapeake Bay.
Maryland History
Known as the Old Line State, a nickname given by George Washington during the Revolutionary War, Maryland features numerous historical landmarks. Highlights include the Edgar Allen Poe House and Museum, Fort McHenry, and Point Lookout State Park, which is the site of a former prison camp that housed more than 50,000 Confederate soldiers.
