Since New Castle places such an emphasis on historical preservation, the town has a wealth of museums and other landmarks to explore. One favorite is the New Castle Court House Museum; it’s one of the oldest surviving courthouses in the country, and guests can visit free and get a glimpse into some of the most important parts of America’s history, including an exhibit on the Underground Railroad. Other historical sites in New Castle include the Read House, home of George Read II, son of a founding father and signer of the U.S. Constitution, and the Dutch House, one of the oldest houses in Delaware.

Other favorites of both visitors and locals include the New Castle Farmers Market. This year-round market has over 70 shops, including produce, desserts, meats, and even hand-tossed pizza. The market is also a flea market, which sells toys, home décor, clothing, and more.

Battery Park is somewhat of a community gathering place. This riverfront park has a playground and plenty of picnic tables for gatherings with family and friends and is also the site of many events throughout the year. Whether it’s a summer concert series, an antiques show or a Separation Day celebration, there’s always something fun happening in Battery Park.
