Five Steps to Becoming a Real Estate Agent in North Carolina
1. Do your research on the North Carolina real estate market.
Make sure you’re ready for the rewards and risks of running your own real estate business. Consider attending a career seminar at your local Long & Foster office. Or schedule a private, confidential appointment with one of our recruiting associates, who can answer all of your questions.
2. Complete 75 hours of official pre-licensing classes.
North Carolina requires 75 hours of education, which you must take in the classroom.
3. Pass the North Carolina real estate exam.
A minimum score of 73 percent on the final exam is required in North Carolina, and there is no limit on the number of retakes.
4. Choose a broker to sponsor you.
To sell real estate in North Carolina, a licensed broker must agree that you may affiliate with his or her brokerage. That broker will assist you in completing your license application.
5. Apply for a North Carolina real estate license.
The North Carolina Real Estate Commission is the licensing authority for the state. Submit a completed and notarized application. If your application is approved, you are a provisional North Carolina real estate broker.
6. Join Long & Foster and get reimbursed for your real estate school tuition.
Long & Foster offers tuition reimbursement for all new real estate sales associates who join Long & Foster. No matter the real estate school you attend, you will be reimbursed for your real estate school tuition and book costs upon your first closing.
