How to Get Your South Carolina Real Estate License in 7 Steps
1. Do your research on the South Carolina real estate market.
Make sure you’re ready for the rewards and risks of running your own real estate business. Consider attending a career seminar at your local Long & Foster office. Or using the form below, schedule a private, confidential appointment with one of our recruiting associates, who can answer all of your questions.
2. Complete official South Carolina pre-licensing classes.
You must complete the Commission approved pre-licensing Course (60 hours - Unit I Sales) then apply to take the SC Real Estate Sales examination. Before you apply for a license you will also need to complete an additional Unit II: Advanced Real Estate Principles course (30-hours). Passing Score sheets and proof of completion of the Unit II course must be submitted with your licensure application.
3. Pass the South Carolina state real estate exam.
A minimum score of 70 percent on the final exam is required in South Carolina, and there is no limit on the number of retakes.
4. Choose a broker to sponsor you.
To sell real estate in South Carolina, a licensed broker must agree to be your broker of record. This person completes the real estate employment section on your license application.
5. Criminal Background Check Required (Changes Effective 7/1/2022).
