Living in Smyrna, DE

Settled prior to the American Revolution, Smyrna, Delaware, is a town rich in history. Even though it is much larger today than it was at its inception, Smyrna still retains its historic, small-town atmosphere. Residents enjoy a slower-paced lifestyle while still living close to major cities, including Dover, Newark, and Wilmington.

Things to Do in Smyrna

Smyrna’s history comes alive at Belmont Hall, a mansion built in the late 1700s. Known as one of the most historic houses in Delaware, Belmont Hall is now used mainly as a gorgeous wedding and event venue. Tours are also held in conjunction with the nearby Smyrna Museum; located in a replica of the now-demolished Smyrna Train Depot, the museum features thousands of items, including photographs, oral histories, and genealogical artifacts.

Smyrna residents don’t need to travel far to get a taste of the ocean—Woodland Beach is located right on the edge of town. This small beach is a perfect spot for relaxing far away from the crowds down the shore. Fishing opportunities abound, and it’s not unusual to see people collecting sea glass along the shoreline.
