Things to Do in East Passyunk

Residents on either side of Tasker Street know Passyunk is pronounced "pash-unk" by locals, and that the main attraction in the area is the culinary arts. East Passyunk Avenue cuts through the heart of the neighborhood at a diagonal, and although Philadelphia's new "Restaurant Row" is along its entire length, the area has a long history of eateries, including old-school, red-sauce Italian places that reflect the neighborhood's vibrant population. The enormously popular cheese steak rivals, Pat's King of Steaks and Geno's Steaks, anchor the food scene at opposite corners of East Passyunk and 9th Street. Fun fact: real cheese steaks come with Cheez Whiz, and that's how you'll get them here. Be prepared.

Living in East Passyunk also gives you easy access to a wide range of up-and-coming foodie favorites in Philly, since new members of "Restaurant Row" serve creative versions of everything from sushi to Mexican, with a healthy dose of cigar bars, boutique shops, and gastropubs in between. The Singing Fountain also straddles the border between East Passyunk Crossing and Passyunk Square, where you'll hear music from the fountain and also the sounds of outdoor concerts and the farmer's market.

For less expensive Passyunk real estate, though, the southern end of the area is your best bet, and it features town homes rather than apartment complexes or condominiums.
