Founded in the 1600s, Kilmarnock, Virginia has become a thriving town, with much of its history preserved in buildings, like Kilmarnock Museum and Historic Christ Church, an Anglican church that dates back to 1735. History buffs can also visit the birthplaces of George Washington and Robert E. Lee, as well as the many historical sites in Northern Neck, an area that has been called the cradle of American democracy because Washington, Madison, and Monroe were all born in the region.

If you like to shop, you'll find that Main Street has a treasure trove of stores, ranging from eclectic antique shops to tourist-driven gift shops to trendy clothing boutiques. The south end of Main Street is filled with local mom-and-pop stores, where you can find handmade clothing, secondhand books, and designer shoes, among many other selections. This central thoroughfare also has national chain and big box stores, as well as grocery stores, local butcher shops, and pharmacies.

Outdoor lovers have their choice of paradise from among Kilmarnock, Virginia's numerous parks. There's Baylor Park with its birding and wildlife trail, a children's playground that's just a block off of Main Street, and Scottie Yard, the place to be if a furry friend is tagging along. For oenophiles, the Kilmarnock neighborhood is surrounded by vineyards included in the renowned Chesapeake Bay Wine Trail. There's also a number of events within Kilmarnock and other neighboring towns to keep residents busy all year round. For instance, there's the annual Patron's Gala Art Show, which showcases original works from local artists and the annual Carnival, which is hosted by Kilmarnock Volunteer Fire Department. The amenities of the state capital, Richmond, are also just 70 miles away.
