Previously called Peabody Heights, Charles Village in Baltimore, Maryland received its current moniker in the 1970s from the Charles Street Scenic Byway, one of only four American scenic byways in urban areas. Running through the heart of Baltimore, Charles Street is the main artery for the Charles Village neighborhood. Bordering Johns Hopkins University and encompassing about 45 city blocks, this is a primarily residential area and residents don't need to go far to enjoy Baltimore's offerings.

The Charles Street Scenic Byway makes it even easier for Charles Village residents to get around. The byway runs for 12 miles, all the while serving up plentiful options in shopping, entertainment, and culture. Founded in 1914 with only one painting, the Baltimore Museum of Art has grown into a major museum that houses 95,000 works. Fans of Henri Matisse should take special note—the museum has more of his works than any other in the world.
For residents who prefer wildlife, the Maryland Zoo offers the opportunity to see animals in spaces designed to replicate their natural habitats. Charles Village is also convenient to beautiful outdoor spaces; city parks such as Swann Park and West Covington Park are less than five miles away. If you're a foodie, dining opportunities along the Charles Street Scenic Byway abound and include seafood restaurants, bistros, and almost anything else you can imagine.
