Blake B. Hegeman serves as General Counsel of The Long & Foster Companies, Inc., a member of the HomeServices of America family of companies. In this role, Hegeman advises Company leaders, employees and agents on a wide range of corporate, regulatory and general real estate law matters. He also regularly interacts with HomeServices of America on corporate governance and compliance matters.Hegeman brings a wealth of legal experience to his current role. He served as an attorney with Virginia Realtors® (formerly the Virginia Association of Realtors®) for over a decade. Following Hegeman’s time at VR, he engaged in the private practice of law for several years. He primarily focused on real estate, corporate, regulatory, and nonprofit association law. Hegeman also served as Outside General Counsel for Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc. This made his transition to an in-house attorney for Long & Foster seamless.
Hegeman was re-elected in 2021 by other Virginia real estate attorneys to serve a third three-year term on the 12-member Board of Governors of the Virginia State Bar’s Real Property Section and is Co-Chair of the Ethics Subcommittee. He has taught classes on real property disclosures to attorneys around the Commonwealth and contributed articles on real estate law to the Section’s publication The Fee Simple.
In 2022, Hegeman was elected by other corporate attorneys to serve on the 12-member Virginia State Bar Corporate Counsel Section Board of Governors. The Section's primary goals are to facilitate communication and the exchange of information and ideas among Virginia attorneys who work in an in-house setting. Hegeman is a former member of the American Society of Association Executive’s Legal Section Council. Additionally, he was a guest lecturer on real estate law at Regent University Law School and Virginia Commonwealth University.
Hegeman graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude from Virginia Tech and attended the University of Richmond School of Law.
