Carroll, a 25 year resident of the Richmond area, graduated from the University of South Carolina and did post graduate work at Virginia Tech. She taught high school government and economics for several years before entering the field of telecommunications where she worked in training and project management. Her clients included Capital One, The University of Va., and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. She also assisted with the formation of a family owned firm, Cottrell Communications, with which she was affiliated for the next decade. Her most recent sales experience was in the staffing industry, where she received national recognition. Carroll has also participated in various community organizations, both as a volunteer and as a board member. Her past affiliations included The Junior Board of the Virginia Home for Boys, the Richmond Ballet Council, and the Junior League of Richmond where she received the President's Award for outstanding volunteerism.
