P. Wesley Foster, Jr. is founder, chairman and chief executive officer of The Long
& Foster Companies —Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc., Prosperity Mortgage Company,
Mid-States Title Insurance Agency, Inc., and Long & Foster Insurance Agency, Inc.
He founded Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc. in 1968, along with a partner, Henry
A. Long. Wes Foster handled the residential real estate arm of the business and
Henry Long handled commercial. In July 1979, Mr. Foster became sole owner and Long
& Foster has grown to the largest privately-owned real estate company in America.
Wes Foster is a founding member of The Leading Real Estate Companies of the World
and the Realty Alliance, both of which are trade groups consisting of the nation’s
leading brokers.
Presently, Foster is seated on the board of directors of Lane Construction Corporation
of Meridien, Conn. and the George C. Marshall Foundation. He has also served on
the board of directors of RELO®, The Leading Real Estate Companies of the World
(a global network of large real estate companies), The Greater Washington Board
of Trade, Metro Board of Directors of First American Bank of Maryland, and the Board
of Directors of First Union National Bank of Virginia. He was named “Entrepreneur
of the Year” in 1991 for real estate in the Greater Washington, D.C. area by Ernst
& Young and co-sponsors Merrill Lynch and Inc. Magazine. In 1987, Wes Foster was
elected Chairman of the Washington/Baltimore Regional Authority and is past Chairman
of The Business Development Bureau of The Greater Washington Board of Trade.
Foster is a 1956 graduate of the Virginia Military Institute and was an Army artillery
officer, stationed in Darmstadt, Germany. He functioned in the capacity of Fire
Direction Officer of the D. Battery 28th Artillery 8th Division (An Honest John
Rocket Battery). He also served as special weapons liaison officer to the German
III Corps.
Foster resides in McLean with his wife, Betty, and they have three grown children
and four grandchildren.
Brenda B. Shipplett
President and Chief Operating Officer
The Long & Foster® Companies
Brenda B. Shipplett was appointed president and chief operating officer of The Long
& Foster Companies in 2004. Prior to assuming her current role, Mrs. Shipplett served
as executive vice president and general manager of Long & Foster’s Virginia/West
Virginia/North Carolina Region. In 1990, Wes Foster selected Shipplett from many
other candidates to fill the position of general manager of the region and she successfully
grew the division both in personnel and performance.
Shipplett began her career in Real Estate in 1977 and was a successful sales associate
and manager. With nearly 30 years of real estate experience, Shipplett has served
as director of the VAR (Virginia Association of REALTORS®), The NVAR (Northern Virginia
Association of Realtors®), and MRIS (Metropolitan Regional Information System).
She is a director on the board of The Leading Real Estate Companies of the World®,,
a trade group consisting of the nation’s leading brokers. In 2005 she was featured
by Virginia Business Magazine as one of “The Most Powerful and Influential Businesswomen
in Virginia” and in 2004, she was named one of The Washington Post’s “Ten Women
Who Mean Business.” She is a director of the Greater Metropolitan Washington Board
of Trade and a trustee for the John Leland Center for Theological Studies in Falls
Church, Va.
Shipplett began her professional career in secondary education where she was repeatedly
honored as “Teacher of the Year”. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Longwood
College in Farmville, Va. and a MA from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire.
She resides in Oakton, Va.
George T. Eastment, III
President, Long & Foster Financial Services
The Long & Foster® Companies
George T. Eastment, III. was promoted to president of Long & Foster Financial Services
in 2004. Prior to that, Eastment served as executive vice president and held numerous
senior management positions since he joined Long & Foster as controller in 1972.
He was promoted to corporate financial vice president in 1977 and senior vice president
in 1982. Eastment joined Long & Foster in 1972 when the firm was in its fourth year
of business. He serves as secretary, assistant treasurer and as a member of the
board of directors of all Long & Foster Companies. Under Eastment’s fiscal leadership,
Long & Foster has never lost money throughout its 38 years in business.
Eastment is a 1972 graduate of The University of Virginia School of Business, Charlottesville,
Va., where he received an MBA and he is an undergraduate of Manhattan College in
New York City where he received his BBA. Eastment was a Captain in the United States
Marine Corps from 1966 to 1970, and he was a platoon commander in Vietnam. He is
a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Financial Planner, and he holds a Virginia
Real Estate License. A native of Brooklyn, N.Y. he and his wife, Tina, reside in
Warenton, Va. They have a son, Scott.
Mary K. Weddle
The Long & Foster® Companies
Executive Vice President
Mary K. Weddle was appointed executive vice president of The Long & Foster Companies
in 2004 and is responsible for overseeing the company’s multiple service departments
which provide support to Long & Foster’s more than 230 sales offices throughout
the company’s seven states and the District of Columbia. She is also responsible
for oversight of the company’s affiliated businesses of mortgage, title and insurance.
Prior to her recent appointment, Weddle served as senior vice president . Weddle
joined The Long & Foster Companies in 1999 as vice president of operations.
Prior to joining Long & Foster, Weddle was previously chief operating officer of
Pardoe/Pardoe and Graham Real Estate, Inc., a residential brokerage firm in Maryland,
Washington, D.C., and Virginia. In that capacity, she directed the operations and
financial activities of the firm, establishing its mortgage and title companies.
She joined Pardoe as Controller in 1993. Weddle began her career as president and
owner of ProAction, Inc., a financial services firm which she sold in 1993.
Weddle is a graduate of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and holds an
MA from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J.. She is a Certified Public Accountant
and licensed Realtor®. She serves as a board of directors member of United Bankshares,
Inc. and on the audit Committee for the holding company. She is a member of AICPA
(American Institute of Certified Public Accountants) and VSCPA (Virginia Society
of Certified Public Accountants). She is active in the Junior League of Washington,
D.C.. She resides in Reston, Va. and is the mother of three grown children.
Jack M. Queen
President, Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc.
MD/DC/PA/DE/NJ Division
Jack Queen, has established a longstanding reputation as a successful leader in
the real estate industry. Queen was named president of Long & Foster’s Maryland,
Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey Division in 2004. In this
capacity, Queen focuses on guiding more than 122 branch sales offices throughout
his growing region.
Prior to his most recent promotion, Queen held numerous management positions since
he joined Long & Foster in 1976. He most recently served as executive vice president
of the Maryland/Washington, D.C. Division, a position he held since March 1993.
Queen began his career at Long & Foster as a sales associate in the newly opened
Bethesda Office. He quickly became the top producer for the office and was appointed
manager of the Andrews/Camp Springs office. Under Queen’s guidance, the office became
the top producing office in Prince George’s County Maryland within two years and
within five years, the office became the second top office in sales volume within
all of Long & Foster.
Within the real estate industry, Queen serves on the board of directors for the
National Association of Realtors and as a member of various real estate association
committees at local, state and national levels. He is co-founder of the Vision Group,
an idea-sharing network of brokers throughout the U.S. He has also been past chairperson
for the United Way of Central Maryland and served on the selection committee for
the Outstanding Young Marylander awards.
Queen is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, Md. After graduation
he worked on Capitol Hill as a legislative assistant and he was a top sales consultant
for a national transportation company.
Queen resides with his wife Elizabeth on a farm in Upper Marlboro, MD. They have
three sons.
Bruce Enger
Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
The Long & Foster® Companies
Bruce L. Enger serves as the senior vice president and chief financial officer of
the Long & Foster Companies and joined the company in 2003. He is responsible for
overseeing all the financial, banking and accounting operations of the company which
provide support to Long & Foster’s more than 270 real estate sales offices throughout
the company’s seven states and District of Columbia. He also oversees the financial
operations of the subsidiary mortgage, title, and insurance businesses, and leads
the acquisition activities for the companies.
Prior to joining Long & Foster in January 2003, Enger was chief operating officer
and senior vice president and partner of Long Realty Company in Tucson, Arizona.
He began his real estate career with Long Realty Company in 1997 as chief financial
officer and was instrumental in many acquisitions during the growth of the company,
including the sale of Long Realty to HomeServices of America, Inc. Enger also spent
15 years prior to that in management in the heavy construction industry, where he
was responsible for business development, project management, and estimating.
Enger received his bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Montana State University
before going on to earn his MBA and CPA designations. Enger resides in northern
Virginia with his family.
Randal Krout
President
Prosperity Mortgage® Company
Randal Krout joins Prosperity with over 20 years of experience in a variety of sales,
and senior management positions in the mortgage industry. Krout was formerly senior
vice president of the eastern United States for Wells Fargo’s Institutional Lending
group.
Krout brings more than twenty years of mortgage experience to his new role. In his
most recent position at Wells Fargo, he was responsible for all the operations and
sales efforts in Wells Fargo’s Eastern Division.Under his leadership, the mortgage
division generated in excess of $146 billion in loans throughout 22 states. Prior
to that, Krout spent three years at Freddie Mac in McLean, Va. as vice president
for all sales and management for their Community Lending segment for the eastern
United States. The operation generated in excess of $60 billion in volume and led
the nation in production. His responsibilities included negotiations with CEO’s
and senior management teams as well as the motivation and training of the sales
force.
Krout began his career as a retail loan officer in 1987 with World Savings (the
operating subsidiary of golden West Financial Corporation) in southern New Jersey.
He progressed throughout his career with the same firm to become a branch manager,
regional manager, east coast manager, and ultimately he managed a multi-state operation
with both sales and centralized underwriting.
Krout is a native of Cherry Hill, N.J. and graduated from Rutgers University in
1982 with a Bachelor of Arts. He currently resides in Oakton, VA, with his wife
and three children.
Richard M. Nelms
President, Long & Foster® Real Estate, Inc.
Richmond, Hampton Roads, and Southwest Virginia
Dick Nelms was promoted to president of Long & Foster’s Southern Virginia real estate
operations in July 2004. In this role, he is responsible for 41 sales offices in
three regions: Richmond, Hampton Roads and Southwest Virginia. Nelms joined Long
& Foster in 1998 with the merger of Bowers, Nelms & Fonville with Long & Foster.
Under Nelm’s leadership, Long & Foster’s Richmond region has grown to19 sales offices
and continues to hold the area’s dominant market position.
Nelms began his distinguished real estate career in 1967. As president and chairman
of the board, he along with two partners founded Bowers, Nelms & Fonville, which
quickly became Central Virginia’s leading real estate firm.
Within the real estate industry, Nelms has been Realtor® of the Year, served as
director of the National Association of Realtors®, president of the Virginia Association
of Realtors®, and was president of the Richmond Association of Realtors®.
Nelms has served as president of the Virginia Division of the American Cancer Society,
he has served on the Board of Directors for the Arthritis Foundation, and he served
as chairman of the University of Richmond Corporate Partnership Program. He was
also past director of the Richmond Chamber of Commerce and currently serves on the
board of directors of the American Heart Association.
A graduate of the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va., Nelms resides in
Richmond, Va. with his wife Dianne. They have four children and three grandchildren.
Glen Phillips
Long & Foster® Insurance Agency, Inc., Commercial Division
Chief Risk Officer
Prior to joining Long & Foster in 1988, Mr. Phillips was with Barnes & Phillips
Insurance in Fairfax, Va. and in 1988 was instrumental in negotiating the merger
of the firm’s Northern Virginia Operations with Long & Foster Insurance Agency.
Mr. Phillips was 1984 president of Independent Insurance Agents of northern Virginia
and he served as District Director from 1984 thru 1988. He was recognized as the
Young Agent of the Year in 1985. Mr. Phillips has received the CIC (Certified Insurance
Counselor), ARM (Associate in Risk Management), and CPCU (Chartered Property & Casualty
Underwriter) designations.
Mr. Phillips is active in numerous community activities. He is a past president
of the Noon Day Optimist Club and is past president and current member of the board
or directors of The Foundation for Applied Technical Education, a non-profit organization
funding technical education projects in Fairfax County Schools. Phillips is also
a past Cub Scout leader and Little League coach. He resides in Fairfax, Va. with
his wife and four children.
Michael Maddiex
President
Long & Foster® Settlement Services
Michael J. Maddiex joined The Long & Foster Companies in April 2004 as president
of Long & Foster Settlement Services. He is responsible for overseeing all of Long
& Foster’s title relationships which include direct operations and joint ventures.
Since joining Long & Foster he has established and maintained more than a dozen
title relationships throughout the Long & Foster footprint.
Prior to joining Long & Foster, Maddiex founded Baird & Warner Title, an affiliate
of Baird & Warner, Chicago’s largest real estate company and one of the nation’s
largest.
Maddiex began his 20 year real estate/title insurance career in Chicago in 1986
at a large, independent title company. He rose through the ranks to become executive
vice president of operations. He subsequently became vice president and operations
manager of Koenig & Strey/GMAC, a high-end, prestigious real estate firm in Chicago.
A graduate of the University of Illinois, Urbana, Ill.., Maddiex resides in Chantilly,
Va. with his wife and two children. He is a member of ALTA (American Land Title
Association) and is an active member of RESPRO.
David H. Stevens
President, Affiliated Businesses
The Long & Foster Companies
David H. Stevens joined the Long & Foster Companies in July, 2006 as President of
Affiliated Businesses. He is directly responsible for the operations of Prosperity
Mortgage Company, Long & Foster Settlement Services, and both personal and commercial
lines of Long & Foster Insurance Agency, Inc.
Prior to joining The Long & Foster Companies, Stevens was executive vice president,
national wholesale manager, responsible for all sales, operations and finance for
Wells Fargo Home Mortgage’s wholesale channel. Prior to his joining Wells Fargo
Home Mortgage, Stevens was senior vice president of the Single family business at
Freddie Mac where he was responsible for all sales, marketing, affordable lending,
product development, communications, and loan prospects for the firm.
Stevens began his career at World Savings Bank, where, after 16 years; he was promoted
to group senior vice president, national sales manager for the mortgage division.
Stevens currently sits on the board of directors for the National Association of
Mortgage Brokers (NAMB) and on the lenders advisory council for the Mortgage Bankers
Association (MBA). He was the founding executive sponsor of the Woman’s Mortgage
Industry Network, and coordinated the first Latino initiative joint venture with
Freddie Mac and Latino mortgage industry leaders.
Stevens is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder, Colo. He resides
in Oakton, Va. with his wife Mary and four children.
Michael B. Koval
The Long & Foster® Companies Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer
Michael B. Koval was appointed senior vice president and CIO of the Long & Foster
Companies in 2004. He is responsible for overseeing all technology services for
Long & Foster and its’ more than 250 sales offices which span throughout the companies’
seven state region and the District of Columbia. Prior to his recent appointment,
Koval served as vice president and CIO since joining Long & Foster in 2000.
Prior to joining Long & Foster, Koval was senior manager and practice leader at
KPMG Consulting (currently know as BearingPoint, LLC), an international consulting
company with offices in more than 125 countries. In that capacity, Koval served
numerous clients with their selection and implementation of financial and transactional
systems and ecommerce solutions including the launching of numerous websites.
Koval is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Business at College
Park Maryland and holds a Masters Degree in Information Technology from Johns Hopkins
University. He serves on numerous advisory boards and has attended Harvard Business
School for advanced executive level continued education. Koval is also a licensed
real estate associate in the state of Maryland since 2000. Koval lives in Rockville,
Maryland with his wife and two children.
